Hey, I’m Olly Aston. I'm a Senior UX Designer at Anaplan. I have experience in Consulting, Government and Startups. I am a hybrid designer with a huge passion for design and innovation. I’m a perfectionist and always seek to create and produce something beautiful. My passion for design, the tech industry, and the work that I do, drives me to be the best that I can be every day.
Previously I worked as a Senior Visual / UX Designer at IBM iX (five years). I was the design lead for major public sector clients and I was engaged on a number of other external projects (anything ‘design’ to global white papers to logos and other fun stuff). I joined IBM’s Apprenticeship Programme direct from college when I was 18 instead of taking a degree in Graphic Design at the University of Reading. I joined IBM as an IT Specialist and progressed to an Application Engineer role (both highly technical posts) before moving into a role that I love even more… design. I started as a Lead Visual / UX Designer for a major defence public sector client' in early 2016 and stayed on the account to 2018. I was fast tracked for promotion, becoming a Senior Visual / UX Designer within IBM iX in 2018.
I have always been passionate about design, it is a way of life, and I have been doing it since I can remember. Design to me affects the way we communicate and portray ourselves which is a real value to me. Whether that's through striking typography, graphic communication, user interfaces or even bold imagery, it all impacts the way we look at the world, whether that be a brand, an app, a person or anything in day-to-day life. To me, design is vitally important. Design has to have a purpose and that's to facilitate the way we live. The reason I love design is that you can express yourself by reshaping, rethinking and redefining the manner in which a concept, idea or subject is communicated.
