NOM: The Food Company

NOM is one of my favourite design pieces. This concept food brand was created when I was studying graphic design at college (2014). I wanted the brand to be bold but quirky. The idea being that NOM would stand out on the high-street. The name 'NOM' was inspired by simply yummy food! I created my brand using traditional and digital methods from start to finish because I believed this best represented NOM.

I created endless pages of research to figure out where I wanted to take the brand. I loved the playfulness of some of the other brands I found in my market research. The vibrant colours of other food brands (also the healthy message they portrayed) and the bold typography was another factor I wanted to introduce into ‘NOM’. I wanted to create something unique for the brand.

The next steps...

I wanted to create a retro, natural looking, logo using a mixture of traditional and digital methods. I created thumbnail sketches and developed the logo further with other traditional and digital methods. I ended up cutting out letter shapes using recycled material and printed them onto paper and other surfaces using a variety of ink and paint.

I continually redefined the logo until I was fully satisfied with the end product. I chose a sticking colour palette to contract the organic feeling logo.

I wanted a unique place for the NOM brand to sell its products. I thought a food truck suited the brand values I wanted to portray.

I decided to advertise NOM with a simple large logo on a coffee cup.

Through the discovery stage of packaging, I wanted a really simple way to deliver the NOM fresh sandwiches. I developed three styles of sandwich containers: for baguettes and sliced bread I created a ‘slot’ box shaped design where sandwiches could be placed into once created and a ‘pincer’ type container for rolls.
